The offense came to life, and the defense held the opposition scoreless as the UWG soccer team defeated Auburn-Montgomery 3-0 on Sunday to claim a big road Gulf South Conference win.

The stat sheet was dominated by the Wolves as they rattled off 16 shots to just 11 from the Warhawks, with 12 of UWG’s shots on target.

The Wolves’ defense held AUM to just one shot on frame. UWG racked up nine corners on the day while AUM had just one.

Junior Katie Mitchell gave the Wolves the early lead with a goal in the 15th minute as her free kick beat the keeper and found the top corner to open the scoring for the Wolves. It was the second of the season for the Newnan native.

Francessca Ellis added the second goal to give the Wolves some cushion as she scored in the 74th minute to make it a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Jazmine Santiago padded the stats with the third UWG goal and the first of Santiago’s career as her 90’ goal made it a 3-0 game. Santiago was all alone in the box and beat the keeper to the left.

It was the second win and second shutout of the season for the Wolves and freshman keeper Jackie Donaldson, who needed to make just one save on the day.

West Georgia improves to 2-3 on the season and moves to .500 at 2-2 in Gulf South Conference, while AUM falls to 1-3 on the season.

West Georgia is back in action on Friday evening as they head to Livingston, Ala. to take on West Alabama on the road at 6 p.m. EST.
