A ninth-minute goal was all the scoring the UWG soccer team had in them on a windy day at University Field in Carrollton as the Wolves fell 2-1 to Christian Brothers in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Katie Mitchell sent in a corner kick that found the head of senior Katie Phillips, who headed it towards the net.

The CBU keeper, Autumn Woods, corralled the ball, but was already in the net when she did, giving the Wolves the early lead.

Christian Brothers answered with a pair of goals in the first half, as Lauren Magdefrau tied it up as Nikesha Mitchell assisted on the scoring play in the 14th minute.

Nikesha Mitchell then added a goal of her own as her 32nd minute strike banked off the left post and into the back of the net.

For Phillips, it is the first goal of the season, and 10th of her career as she is now tied again with Mitchell for eighth all-time in career goals.

In assists, Mitchell records her first of the season and 14th of her career as she inches closer to the career assists record.

Mitchell is currently second all-time and needs seven assists to tie Samantha Jones’ 9-year-old record of 21.

The Wolves fall to 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in GSC play, while the Bucs move to 2-2 on the season and are also 1-1 in league play.

The Wolves’ home game against Georgia College that was scheduled for today has been canceled.
