We have a dangerous place on the road in Coweta County, and I’d like to share my experience there in an effort to maybe help others avoid an accident there.
On March 23, 2017, I pulled out of Kroger at Thomas Crossroads toward Glenda Trace. Just past Glenda Trace, the driver in the car in front of me came to an abrupt stop trying to turn left into the daycare center. There is no turn lane, so there is nowhere to get out of the way.
She had a child in the back seat, and I stepped on my brakes as hard as I could to avoid hitting her. I realized I was going to hit her. There was oncoming traffic on the left, and the only option I had was to try to get around her using the right side of the road. Praise the Lord, I was paying attention, or was not texting or speeding or there would have been no reaction time to avoid the accident.
I hit a culvert and a tree, totaled my car and broke my arm. Had I not hit the culvert, I would have hit the tree dead-on, and the impact would have most likely cost me my life, as the wheel was completely removed from the axle on the passenger side.
Since the accident I have discovered that in the last two years there have been 19 accidents in this same spot. I know of two fatalities, but there have been more. I am waiting for the official number from the Georgia State Patrol.
There is clearly a problem at this location. If anything, they need a turn lane here. There is one coming from the opposite direction, but not one headed west. I write this to warn those who live here to be careful if you travel this road. I go up and down that road every single day. I had no idea how many accidents there have been in this exact same spot for this same reason.
