The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.
Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.
Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.
Avalon Healthcare LLC, 120 Spring St., Newnan-- was inspected on Sept. 7 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Sanitizer not pumping in third sink compartment. Small amount of mold on deflector shield and interior wall of machine. Need handwash sign in restroom.
Bojangles, 2800 Hwy. 34 E, Newnan -- was inspected on Sept. 6 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Clean pans stored on top of grease receptacle. Brooms and dustpans stored near handwash sink. Moved to proper location/ corrected on-site. Fried chicken 126.6 degrees fahrenheit. Time not posted-discarded/ corrected on-site.
Brickhouse Tavern and Grill, 80 Newnan Station Drive, Suite 301, Newnan-- was inspected on Aug. 28 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No sanitizer pumping through dish machine. Mold on drop area of ice machine. No hand wash sign at wash sink. Food service permit not posted.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America -Southeast, 600 Celebrate Life Parkway, Newnan -- was inspected on Aug. 28 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Food particles on slicer. New violation.
Country Inn & Suites, 1125 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E, Newnan -- was inspected on Aug. 30 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed containers stored as clean or in use with stickers present on them. Glasses manually dried for consumer use. Other dishes were washed, rinsed, sanitized and allowed to air dry. New violation. Observed wet wiping cloth on counter in food prep area. Wiping cloth bucket provided to correct violation.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 527 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan -- was inspected on Sept. 7 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed employees using hand washing sink to wash lettuce. Informed manager and lettuce was discarded/ corrected on-site. Observed buildup and sticker residue on pans. Wash, rinse, sanitize and air dry. Wet-stacking present during inspection. Observed wet wiping cloths on prep tables not in sanitizer bucket. Corrected on-site. New violation.
