Newnan, Northgate get region softball victories

Both the Newnan and Northgate softball teams made short work of their opponents Tuesday, winning their region contests by the mercy rule.

Newnan 9, Campbell 1: Newnan loaded the bases and exploded for seven runs in the top of the second to take a 7-0 lead over Campbell in region action.

From there, the Lady Cougars were in control, adding two more runs to their side of the scoreboard en route to a 9-1 Region 2-AAAAAAA victory.

Campbell scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third.

Newnan outhit Campbell 9-5.

Offensively, the Lady Cougars were led by Kaylen Madrey and Alex Williams, who finished with two hits each.

Danielle Curlee, Ansley Houston and Darby Keene had two RBIs each.

Newnan pitcher Addie Andrew gave up five hits ands struck out two.

With the win, Newnan improved its record to 18-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 2-AAAAAAA action. Campbell’s record falls to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in the region.

Northgate 16, Douglas County 0 : Northgate pitcher Sasha Moraweitz only needed three innings to put away Region 5-AAAAAA opponent Douglas County.

Moraweitz finished the contest with a perfect game by not allowing a Douglas County base runner to reach, and the Lady Vikings rolled to a 16-0 win.

Northgate scored five times in the first, 10 times in the second and once in the third.

The Lady Vikings pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of six Douglas County runs.

Alissa Bolinger led the Lady Vikings offense with three hits and two RBIs. She also scored three runs.

Charla Echols, Trinity Ingleston, Liz Sebastian, Madison Dees and Maddie Maxey each had two RBIs.

Sarah Turi and Alexis Brandon also drove in a run each.

Northgate improved to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the the region.
