WOODSTOCK — Elijah Griggs and Bryson Moss scored touchdowns for Newnan High Friday night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Etowah Eagles on the road, as the visiting Cougars lost 31-14 in non-region action.

Newnan remains winless on the season at 0-3 while Etowah improves to 2-2.

Etowah led Newnan 17-7 at halftime and 24-7 in the third quarter Friday. Newnan did show some fight late in the game, cutting the Etowah lead to 24-14 with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but

the Eagles scored a late TD to seal the win.

“The guys played really hard and they fought the entire game,” said first-year Newnan head coach Chip Walker. “We made too many mistakes tonight, but we gave a great effort.”

Moss, a freshman, scored a TD in his third straight game for Newnan, which hosts Washington (2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Drake Stadium.
