Learn from history

This letter is in response to Mr. Hartman's suggestion of removing Overby.

I wonder if he is aware that 2,000 years ago even the Romans had slaves. Does that mean we just knock over all the beautiful statues of Caesar? Also, even though the Japanese lost WWII, I bet they celebrate many of their war heroes.

Where does trying to erase history end? If we take down all the Confederate statues because they offend a certain group, shouldn't we take down everything that offends other people? After Martin Luther King was assassinated, the government renamed thousands of streets all over the nation for him. What if that offends someone?

The Statue of Liberty was made in France after a French model. Maybe we should take it down too.

Why don't we just learn from history and then try to get along instead of certain groups demanding something be done about what happened in the past?
