​Lady Cougars softball team plays in Trojan Slam

The Newnan Cougars softball team participated in the Trojan Slam Friday and Saturday in Carrollton and came away with a 3-1 record.

Friday, the Lady Cougars lost their first game of the year, dropping an 8-5 decision to Chattooga.

Newnan then bounced back with a 7-3 victory over Hillgrove. Saturday morning, the Lady Cougars defeated Cherokee 8-5. They also beat Gordon- Lee 5-3 Saturday afternoon.

In the victory against Hillgrove, Hailey Bloom had a grand slam. Ansley Houston also had home run.

Against Cherokee, Houston pitched and struck out three. Offensively, Blythe Bates, Bloom and Houston each had a double.

Bates and Reagen London drove in two RBIs. Bloom, Danielle Curlee, Houston and Alex Williams also drove in runs.

In Saturday’s contest against Gordon-Lee, Andrews and Houston each had two RBIs. Curlee added one.

Andrews also added four strikeouts.

In Friday’s loss to Chattooga, Newnan led 5-3 heading into the last inning, but the Lady Cougars gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to suffer their first loss of the season.

Despite the loss, Addie Andrews struck out 12 and Williams drove in two RBIs.

Newnan steps back into Region 2-AAAAAAA action Tuesday at home against rival East Coweta. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
