Heritage, Northgate volleyball teams sweep

Local prep volleyball teams Heritage and Northgate both won on the road against their area opponents.

The Heritage Lady Hawks defeated St. George’s Episcopal School 3-0 and the Northgate Lady Vikings defeated area foes Alexander 2-0 and Langston Hughes 2-0 at Alexander High.

The Lady Hawks dominated St. George’s 25-7, 25-5, 25-8 and were led by freshman Kadence Jennings with 19 points scored in the contest. 

Heritage freshmen Taylor Johnson and Genevieve Richards and junior Frances Powell also added 12 points scored each for the Lady Hawks, who are now 8-5 overall and 1-0 in GISA Area 1-AAA play.

Heritage hosts area opponent Oak Mountain Academy at 6:30 p.m. today.

Northgate took care of Langston Hughes 25-19, 25-14 and beat homestanding Alexander 25-10, 25-10 to improve to 12-7 overall and 2-0 in Area 5-AAAAAA play.

Against Langston Hughes, Ansley Berry led Northgate with four kills, Emily Dozier had four serving aces, Kaela Busby had three blocks and Kamryn Halpin added eight digs.

Emily Moore and Busby led the Lady Vikings over Alexander with several big points throughout the match and Dozier added 11 assists for Northgate, which faces McIntosh and Columbus in a tri-match at McIntosh High, starting at 5 p.m. today.
