The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.
Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hairnets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.
Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.
Canongate Golf Club - Sequoia Golf LLC, 924 Shaw Road, Sharpsburg-- was inspected on July 27 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed meatloaf cooling covered overnight at 44-47F. Tomatoes cut today cooled to 54F after 45 minutes and to 48F after another hour. Cool open hot foods uncovered inside walk-in blast chiller or freezer on top shelf to ensure they reach 70F within 2 hours or other approved cooling methods. Meat loaf was discarded since manager was not sure that 70F was reached after two hours of cooling. Procedure will be updated. Corrected on-site.
Casaburgers, 98 Jackson St., Newnan -- was inspected on July 26 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No paper towels at hand wash sink. Owner brought in paper towels to hand wash sink, then took paper towels away. Chemicals stored with food, glasses and trays. Air fresheners stored on rack with food. Canned fuel stored on rack with food. First aid kit stored on plate.
Newnan Health and Rehabilitation, 244 E Broad St., Newnan-- was inspected on July 26 and received a score of 100-A.
Domino’s Pizza #3567, 15 Baker Road, Newnan -- was inspected on July 25 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hand wash signs at hand wash sinks in prep area and leak at three-compartment sink. No lid on waste receptacle in restroom and mold on wall above three-compartment sink.
Duff’s Famous Wings, 3150 Hwy. 34, Newnan -- was inspected on July 3 and received a score of 90-A. Raw chicken wings stored above pizza logs in bottom of top-lift cooler; moved to proper location. Buildup on hood filters.
Chopsticks China Bistro, 3150 E. Hwy. 34 Suite 304, Newnan -- was inspected on July 27 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Bag of cooked rice stored in container with package of raw beef, raw chicken stored above raw beef inside walk-in cooler; moved to proper location. Same tongs used to dispense raw shrimp and raw beef; additional tongs placed in product. Corrected on-site.
Chylaca’s Mexican Restaurant, 3154 E. Hwy. 34 Suite 205/206, Newnan -- was inspected on July 27 and received a score of 79-C. Inspector’s comments: Raw fish and other meat stored above pico and other ready-to-eat foods in bottom of prep-top cooler. Flies present in back area near back door, standing water outside back door.
Subway, 30 Raymond Hill Road, Suite B, Newnan -- was inspected on July 27 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Wet wiping cloths to be stored in sanitizer between uses. Make up sanitizer bucket each shift when sanitizer is changed; sanitizer basin washed and remade at 5 p.m.
