Newnan wins twice Friday at Carrollton Invitational

The Newnan Lady Cougars softball team played twice Friday night in the Carrollton Invitational Softball Tournament, beating North Forsyth 9-6 and Decatur 6-2.

In the Lady Cougars’ first game of the night, Newnan and North Forsyth took turns with the lead.

After North Forsyth took a 2-1 lead after three innings, Newnan rallied back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 3-2.

North Forsyth took a 6-3 lead after a four-run explosion in the top of the fifth before the Lady Cougars regained the lead for good with six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Pitcher Addie Andrews picked up the win for Newnan against North Forsyth, allowing six hits, striking out three and walking two.

Offensively, Newnan leadoff hitter Kaylen Madrey finished with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

The Lady Cougars’ Darby Keene had two hits and drove in a run.

Alex Williams drove in two runs.

Ansley Houston, Marleigh Williams and Paige DePoi drove in one run each.

Against Decatur, the long ball was the key part of the Lady Cougars’ offense as Ansley Houston and Reagen London each hit solo home runs.

Newnan scored single runs in the first four innings. The Lady Cougars added two runs in the fifth when London drove in Houston.

Houston also had a strong showing from the pitching circle, giving up six hits, striking out four and walking one.

Newnan outhit Decatur 11-6.
