FirstPlace4Health, a nationally recognized, Christian-based weight loss group, has announced that local classes will be starting again this August.

In addition to promoting weight loss, FirstPlace4Health works with members to improve overall health by providing emotional and spiritual support, as well as encouraging healthy dieting and other positive lifestyle changes.

“The ‘four’ in the program’s name represents all parts of the program: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual,” said Karen Shockey. Shockey has been with FirstPlace since January 2015 and recently took on a leadership role within the group.

“This is a Christ-based program that teaches people how to take care of their health,” said Shockey.  She explained that the program teaches members how to eat healthy by tracking meals and teaching portion control.

Since joining the group, Shockey has maintained her weight loss of almost 100 pounds and grown in her faith.

“These 12-week sessions allow us to encourage and support each other,” said Shockey. “We meet weekly to have Bible study before getting to the physical-health part of the session.”

New members of FirstPlace4Health are required to buy the member's kit. The kit is $100 and includes two books and a guide that will be used for each week’s session.

Local classes for FirstPlace4Health will be begin Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Newnan campus of Crossroads Church, located on Hwy. 154. The second session will be a morning session, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Crossroads Church main campus on Hwy. 16.
