Junior pitcher Kelly Lynch picked up right where she left off last year and the East Coweta softball team opened the 2017 season Friday afternoon with a sweep in the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament.
East Coweta rolled to a 13-2 victory over Lassiter in the first game and then held off Hillgrove in their second game of the day with a 3-0 decision.
Against Lassiter, East Coweta scored three runs in the first and five in the fifth and sixth.
Lassiter scored single runs in the first and second for its only offense of the contest.
The Lady Indians outhit the Lady Trojans 13-6.
Ashlynn Gunter drove in four runs and Kelley Lynch three.
Gunter’s offensive explosion included a homer in the first. Lynch added a homer in the sixth.
Aniston Wright also drove in three runs.
Caison Byers, Kenadie Cooper and Ansley Gunter also drove in runs.
Rachel Vaughn, Wright and Olivia Cook each pitched for the Lady Indians.
Vaughn had the team’s only strikeout.
Lynch pitched the second game and struck out 14 batters and gave up just one hit en route to the win.
The Lady Indians scored all three runs in the bottom of the sixth with Davis, Lynch and Wright each driving in runs.
East Coweta finished the game with six hits.
