Authorities have identified the two victims in a weekend car crash that killed a Newnan couple.
Thomas Mayo, 58, and Pamela Mayo, 57, were killed on Saturday night when the driver of a black Infiniti was traveling westbound on Hwy. 54 when he allegedly ran a stop light and collided with their car attempting to turn left into the movie theatre parking lot, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The driver of the Infiniti was identified as 28-year-old Andrew Wiemann of Acworth.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday, emergency crews were called to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Hwy. 34 and Hwy. 54 in Sharpsburg.
After arriving on scene, authorities found the Infiniti on fire while the Escape had two patients trapped inside, according to Commander Bryan Fuller with Coweta County Fire Rescue.
Personnel at the scene confirmed both occupants inside the Escape were deceased. Wiemann escaped the burning car, was examined by medical personnel, and agreed to be transported to Atlanta Medical Center for further evaluation.
According to Sgt. Katie Thompson with the Georgia State Patrol, Wiemann admitted to speeding at the time. The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is still investigating the crash and further details will be available at a later time.
