Deacon Joseph Prather

Deacon Joseph Prather was born on January 2, 1935 to the late Carrie Lee Davis Prather and Ed Morgan.  

He departed this life on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Piedmont Hospital.  

His service to the Lord includes 36 years as an Ordained Deacon under the leadership of Reverend P. L. Coleman.  Being directed by the Holy Spirit, he served as Chairman of Deacon Board for 24 years under Reverend J.T. Coleman.  He was trained and seasoned among fallen comrades: Deacon J. D. Smith, Deacon Carl Elder, Sr., Deacon Cecil Fearby, Deacon Young Turner, Deacon Ulysses Tolbert, and Deacon Roosevelt Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Mrs. Janie Prather; sons; Reverend Emory Hawkins, Deacon Larry Prather, Pastor Guy Prather and Brother Nathaniel Prather; daughters; Gloria D. Kirk and Teresa L. Prather; grandchildren; Diallo, Teresa, Vasheta, Carena, Darian, Jordan, Joshua, Jaydah, Jayné, Aishah, Josie, Jeanette, and Gene; several great-grandchildren; siblings; Sarah P. Brown, Marion Prather, Katie Florence; uncle; Reverend Clifford Davis; sisters-in-laws, Adrene Prather, Ruby Prather and Lillian Prather; other relatives and friends.

Services were held July 3, 2017 at the Summerhill Baptist Church with Pastor J.T. Coleman, Eulogist.
