Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the U.S. headquarters of German caster maker Blickle included a crowd of local civic and business leaders bringing their good wishes to the Blickle family and their employees, but not just for the usual reasons.
Sure, the builder, the real estate broker and some government officials were there in appreciation of what they are getting from the deal. And there were those grateful for the jobs the company will create once construction is complete.
The gratitude was for more than that, although those are excellent reasons to be thankful.
What is different is Blickle has already jumped in to contribute to the community. One of the reasons Newnan beat other possible locations was the German-style apprenticeship program here, the first in the United States. And when company executives learned there was a need for training tools for the first crop of students, they didn’t hesitate to provide the funds even though the apprentices will work at other companies initially.
That’s the way to quickly become part of our community. We care about education here, and it looks like Blickle will fit right in.
