University of West Georgia-themed items were handed out to those attending UWG-Newnan’s Family Fun Day.

Bright inflatable slides, refreshments and entertainment form part of the recipe administrators are relying on to help show the newest college in town is eager for close ties to the local community.

The University of West Georgia at Newnan welcomed students, families, friends and members of the community to join university officials and staff for its Family Fun Day Saturday.

Those attending the free Saturday event spent time in an inflatable bounce house and participated in obstacle courses, carnival games and giveaways. Organizers also provided music and food from local restaurants.

More than 800 students are currently enrolled in UWG-Newnan, which moved from its original location in Shenandoah to the historic Newnan Hospital site on Jackson Street in 2015.

University administrators recently released details of a new plan to expand enrollment and add additional courses of study at the Newnan campus, along with building out 25,000 square feet of shelled-in space for instructional and office use.
