Former Northgate and current Point University golfer Maddux Lytle is preparing for the NAIA National Championships in Moline, Illinois from May 16-19.
The Point University men’s golf team totaled 884 strokes (20 over par) for 54 holes and placed first among 11 Appalachian Athletic Conference schools at the NAIA-AAC District Qualifier hosted by Reinhardt University. The tournament was played at the Governor’s Towne Club in Acworth from April 24-25.
With its victory, Point University automatically qualified for the 68th annual NAIA men’s championship.
The three-day tournament will be hosted by St. Ambrose University at the TPC Deere Run Country Club.
Point, which ranks 16th in the Bushnell Golfweek NAIA Coaches’ poll, won its first AAC championship and qualified for its first NAIA National Championship tournament.
In the AAC championship, Lyle was tied for 10th with a two-over par 74.
Teammate Joao Magalhaes was tied for first with Reinhardt golfer Ben Dulin after both golfers shot a 1-under 71.
Also for Point, Francisco de Oliveira and Conner Brown were tied for third after shooting an even par 72. Teammate Lance Daniel was 12th after shooting a three-over-par 75.
