Welch Elementary wins playground makeover

Welch Elementary School will receive a more than $60,000 playground makeover after winning a sweepstakes award from the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation and Discovery Education.

Welch was selected from a pool of nearly 620,000 nationwide entries. The school is one of three 2017 grand prize winners, each of which will be awarded $30,000 in cash and sporting goods and a new PlayCubesTM Playground from Playworld. The entire prize package is valued at $60,405.

A formal presentation is planned at the school on Monday.

Walker receives Mercer CALI Award

Coweta County resident Jordin Walker recently received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for achievement in the study of Elder Law from Mercer University.

Walker is a second-year student at the Mercer University School of Law. CALI Awards are chosen by course professors and awarded to students who have the highest scores in individual law school classes.

Wozniak featured on Lees-McRae website

Gage Temple Wozniak, a Newnan native and former student-athlete at Lees-McRae College, is among alumni featured on the school’s website.

A graduate of Northgate High School, Wozniak earned a degree in business administration and played lacrosse at Lees-McRae. As a freshman, he started a clothing brand called Woz Clothing and says he plans to devote himself full-time to expanding and growing the brand.

Ragland takes US Marine oath

Alexandre Chadwick Ragland of Newnan recently was sworn in to the United States Marine Corps.

He is the son of the late Timothy Ragland Sr. and Tony and Alizia Stargell. Grandparents are the late David Ward and Alice Faye Ward, Alfred and Wanda Ragland and Dorthy Ragland.
