The Northgate baseball team struck early and often on Monday afternoon and beat Region 5-AAAAAA opponent New Manchester 15-0 in a game called after four innings.
Northgate pitcher David Gardner pitched all four innings for Vikings, throwing a no-hitter. He finished the game with six strikeouts and three walks.
Northgate smacked 13 hits and scored at least one run in every inning but the third.
The Vikings built a 1-0 lead in first and pushed four more runs across the plate in the second.
After not scoring in the third, the Vikings ended the game with a 10-run explosion in the bottom of the fourth.
Twelve different players had at least one base hit for the Vikings.
The Vikings’ Noah Aaron smacked a home run and finished with three RBIs. Chase Bevil and Parker Baxter each drove in two runs.
Connor Fortner, Dalton Brooks, Christian Dyer, Ryan Willard, Will Queen and Robert Smith all had RBIs for the Vikings.
With the win, Northgate improved its record to 12-14 overall and 8-5 in Region 5-AAAAAA action. New Manchester fell to 1-15 and 1-11.
The two teams meet again today when Northgate travels to Douglasville for the second game in the region series.
Northgate closes out its regular season with a two-game series against Douglas next week.
The Vikings play at home next Wednesday, and on the road Friday.
East Coweta beats Pebblebrook: The Indians broke open the game in the bottom of the first after pushing nine runs across the plate, and from there, it was never close as they won the Region 2-AAAAAAA 16-1 on Monday in a game called after four innings.
The Indians added three runs in the second and four in the bottom of the fourth.
East Coweta outhit Pebblebrook 7-4 and took advantage of three errors by the Falcons.
Three East Coweta pitchers had at least two strikeouts. Avery Williams led the way from the mound with three strikeouts. Liam West and Austin Bunn had two each.
Offensively, Ryan Griffith had two hits and an RBI. J.J. Freed, Trevor Crowdis and William Kelley had two RBIs each.
Devonte Brown, Ryan Dyal, Caleb Cashion, Ethan Darrow, Jeff Sangers and Brandon Frost also drove in a run each.
East Coweta improved to 20-4 overall and 10-1. Pebblebrook fell to 3-15 overall and 1-11.
