Coweta County will offer two senior citizen-focused presentations during the month of May, including topics such as social security and senior caregivers.
A workshop for seniors will be held at the former Newnan Hospital, now the home of the University of West Georgia Newnan Campus, at 80 Jackson Street. The presentation will begin at 9 a.m. and is projected to last until 12 p.m.
The workshop, which will cover Social Security, Medicare and consumer protection, is being hosted by Congressman Drew Ferguson and is open to all area seniors, their families and any personnel in the social services field.
Speakers at the workshop may also include representatives from the congressman’s district office, representatives from the Social Security Administration, the Disability Hearing Office and the GA Cares Medicare Assistance Agency.
Later in the month, the Three Rivers Agency on Aging will offer seniors the Caregiver Conference which will be held May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coweta County Fairgrounds, located at 275 Pine Road in Newnan.
The conference is open to all seniors, family, friends and all caregivers. Admission to the event is free, but reservations are strongly encouraged. RSVP by May 17 to receive a free lunch ticket during the event.
Conference speakers will include Rob Johnson on veterans benefits, Beth Dow on caregiving, Kenyatta Walker on behavior health, Piper Hill on pet therapy, and Karen Kennedy on medicaid. Lunch will be provided to registered participants, along with a light breakfast. Door prizes will also be given.
