Lady Vikings golf team wins Coweta Cup

The Northgate Lady Vikings golf team rolled to a 25-stroke victory over second-place Newnan Wednesday afternoon to capture the 2017 Coweta Cup.

In the 18-hole tournament held at White Oak Country Club, Northgate shot a 260, while Newnan finished its round with a 285. East Coweta lost its battle for second place, finishing three strokes behind the Lady Cougars with as 288.

Individual honors came down to a close battle between Newnan’s Courtney Lewis and Northgate’s Lindsey Dull.

In the end, Lewis won low medalist honors after shooting a 77, one stroke better than Dull, who ended her round with a 78.

The Lady Vikings captured the county honors behind the effort of Michelle McGrath who shot an 82. Payton Gaston helped the Lady Vikings’ effort with a 100.

For Newnan, McKenzie Teal finished with a 99, while Mason Kendrick added a 109.

East Coweta Autumn Brown turned in the Lady Indians’ lowest score with an 87, and Emma Dietz shot a 91.

All three squads will participate in the state tournament next month.
