A series of entrepreneur-focused classes will offer insights on starting and sustaining a business, with the first class set for Thursday.
The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the University of West Georgia’s Richards College of Business and the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center to present the spring programs. In this series of five classes, participants can gain new information on everything from starting a business and writing a business plan to funding, marketing and managing a business.
Classes are $39 each for chamber members and $49 for others. The entire series is $149 for chamber members of $199 for the public. Registration can be completed online at www.georgiasbdc.org
Classes will be held Thursdays from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the University of West Georgia Newnan Campus in room 164.
Part One — Starting a Business, Thursday, April 27, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Participants will find out if owning a business is right for them. Topics covered will include: personal traits of an entrepreneur, marketing analysis, legal and insurance considerations, marketing, bookkeeping and accounting basics, financial and money management and basics of business plan preparation.
Part Two — Writing a business plan, Thursday, May 4, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
There are a lot of factors to consider when it comes to starting a business – size, location, product, target customer. A business plan forces an entrepreneur to think through all of these and many more aspects of the business. In this program, participants will learn the components of a business plan and how to put them to good use.
Part Three — Finding money for your business, Thursday, May 11, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
This session will cover learning to pick the right financing options and how to make proposals attractive to funding sources. The class also covers how to calculate financing need, develop financial projections and present business proposals in the most professional and effective way.
Part Four — Marketing your business, Thursday, May 18, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
This class will teach entrepreneurs how to successfully brand their company, differentiate themselves from the competition, position their products in the marketplace and develop an effective marketing program. The session will cover both traditional marketing as well as digital and social media.
Part Five — Managing by the numbers, Thursday, May 25, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Many business owners struggle with the financial management of the companies. In this session, participants will learn how to use financial data to manage a business day to day. Topics covered will be benchmarks to measure results, analyze favorable variances, manage cash flow and track important financial ratios to monitor the health of a business.
