Vikings drop Region 5-AAAAAA game to South Paulding

The Northgate Vikings baseball team dropped an 8-2 Region 5-AAAAAA contest to South Spaulding on the road Wednesday night.

With the loss, Northgate fell to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the region standings. South Paulding improved to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in Region 5-AAAAAA.

South Paulding scored one run in the first and two in the second, and from there they never looked back.

Northgate closed the gap to 3-1 with an unearned run in the top of the third, but South Paulding regained the momentum with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

The Vikings pushed their last run of the game across the plate in the top of the seventh.

Alex Cawood had a hit and an RBI, and Charles Barrera also had a base hit for the Vikings’ only offense.

Ryder Willard had five strikeouts for the Vikings and Cawood one.

The two teams play again on Friday at Northgate. The first pitch is set for 5:55 p.m.
