Ralph Edison Jason was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 12, 1923.
He grew up in a family of six brothers and two sisters during the Great Depression.
He is survived by one sister, June Cain, daughter, Karen Moore, granddaughter, Amanda Brondyke, and grandson, Kyle Moore. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginsfuneralhomes.com .
Ralph attended Faith Bible Academy in Missouri, where he met his wife of 63 years, Juanita Jason. Faith Bible Academy was a high school and training center for missionaries. After graduating valedictorian, he went on to Baptist Bible Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
During World War II, Ralph worked for Boeing making wingtips for the B-17. His passion has been preaching the gospel; he began preaching at the age of 19. Ralph enjoyed holding revival meetings in Pumpkin Hollow in the hills of Missouri. He would preach and his wife, Juanita, would play the piano.
He pastored several churches in Kansas: Muddy Creek Baptist Church, Swedish Baptist Church where he preached to farmers, First Baptist Church of Washington, Baptist Mission in Enosdale, and Lawrence Baptist Temple.
He pastored in three churches in Texas: Monahans Baptist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Crane where he did a radio broadcast, and Temple Baptist Church in Odessa where he was a youth pastor. In California, he pastored Central Baptist Church in National City, Berean Baptist Church in Compton, and First Baptist Church of Huntington Beach where he pastored for nearly 40 years.
He has also done evangelistic work in Wyoming, Wichita, Kansas, and Durango, Colorado. He was a founder of the Baptist Bible Fellowship International in 1950. And he received his Doctor of Theology degree in 1998 at the age of 75. Ralph Jason, age 94, passed away March 16, at Southwest Christian Care in Union City after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Westside Baptist Church with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, March 20, 2017. Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, 770-253-4723.
