The East Coweta soccer teams swept Pike County Tuesday night in a non-region game with the Lady Indians winning 2-0 and the boys rolling to a 4-1 victory.

With the win, the Lady Indians improved their record to 8-1, while the boys team improved to 4-5.

The Lady Indians have won three in a row, while the boys have won two out of the last three.

Brookelyn Still scored the first goal of the game for the Lady Indians in the first half, and Emily Darnell added the final goal of the contest in the second half.

The Lady Indians defense had another solid outing, and goalie Sam Hoffman recorded her eighth shutout.

In boys action, the East Coweta Indians had one of their best outings of the season against Pike County.

Despite coming in as the sixth-ranked team in the Class AAA poll, Pike County never could get its game on track.

Baylor Asher scored the first goal of the game, followed by Chase Manning, who headed the ball into the net on an assist from Matthew Allen. Tyler Harrison added the final two goals of the game for the Indians.

Brian Green finished with seven saves for the Indians.

Northgate takes on Alexander: After rolling to a 10-0 victory over New Manchester on Tuesday night, the Lady Vikings face one of their toughest tests of the season tonight when they entertain Alexander in a Region 5-AAAAAA contest.

Both teams come into the contest undefeated in region action, and the outcome of the match could go a long way in determining who wins the region.

The Lady Vikings (7-1, 4-0) enter the week ranked sixth in the most recent Class AAAAAA poll, and have lost just one time this season when they fell to Whitewater 7-2.

All seven of the Lady Vikings’ victories have been shutouts. Alexander (6-1, 3-0) has won six games in a row, including five via shutouts.

Alexander has outscored its last three opponents 30-0.

Newnan soccer teams rolling: Both the Newnan boys and girls soccer teams are on a roll.

The Cougars (5-0-1) come into today’s home game against Region 2-AAAAAAA opponent Campbell undefeated.

Their only tie was against Villa Rica when the two teams deadlocked at 2-2.

Newnan has since rolled off five victories in a row, including a 7-1 win over Westlake to open the Region 2-AAAAAAA. Campbell comes into the game undefeated with a 7-0 overall record and a 1-0 mark in region action.

The Newnan girls (6-1-1) have displayed plenty of offensive firepower this year, outscoring their opponents 38-5. After a 0-0 tie against Northside-Columbus and a 1-0 loss to Starr’s Mill, the Lady Cougars came back and beat Luella 9-1 and Westlake 3-0.

The Campbell girls come into the game with a 5-2 record. The team’s last loss was a 6-0 decision to East Coweta in a league game.
