After a weather delay pushed the start of the Cougar Classic high school golf tournament back about 45 minutes, teams teed off at Summer Grove Saturday afternoon in the annual Newnan High School event.
In addition to Newnan, East Coweta and Northgate were also among the local teams participating in the tournament.
The Cougars shot a 341, Northgate 352 and East Coweta 377.
Starr’s Mill turned in the best score of the day, shooting a 305 to win the team title.
Strong Rock and Dalton each finished with a 309 to round out the top three.
Harris County’s Kason Partridge finished as the low medalist after shooting a 70.
Starr’s Mill’s Andrew Crockett and Strong Rock’s Jackson O’Neill each shot a 72 to round out the top three in the individual competition.
The top four golfers from each school counted toward the team’s overall score.
Newnan’s Preston Wise led the way for the Cougars with a 79. Luke Sherman finished with an 80, Joe Berry turned in a 90 and Thomas Kelleher had a 92.
Jaden Hall and Tim Favor both shot a 78 for the Northgate Vikings. Garrett Klone fired a 92 and Saulton Crow finished with a 104.
East Coweta was led by Bailey Whitton’s 80. Kevin Sang shot a 98, Jake McCullough a 99 and Drew Jones a 100.
Other team scores included McIntosh with a 324, North Cobb 327, Walker 336, Carrollton 334, Walton 337, Kennesaw Mountain 342, Hillgrove 345, LaGrange 355 and Riverwood 396.
