On the afternoon of Saturday, March 11, 2017, God, in His infinite wisdom, gently and suddenly called His faithful servant, Gerald Wilson Bernhard, to his eternal home in heaven.
The earthly journey for Wilson began in Newnan on September 22, 1934. He was one of three children born to the late Woodrow Wilson and Geraldine Mobley Bernhard. In addition to his parents, Wilson was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Kim Brown; and by a brother, Joe Bernhard.
After attending high school, Wilson enlisted in The United States Air Force and served from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. For 35 years, Wilson was a dedicated employee of The James River Corporation. After his retirement, he worked for Kemp’s Dalton West Carpets.
Wilson will be remembered as a man who deeply loved his family and for always being a quiet force and good example in their lives. Friendships formed outside the family were bonds that would last a lifetime for him including the friendships of his co-workers at James River.
He was a dedicated husband to his wife, Patricia Wilson Bernhard. Also surviving are his children Monica Thompson and her husband Cal, Lance Bernhard, Duffey Bernhard and Tammy Duncan. He was a doting grandfather to Matthew Brown and Hope, Erica Lane, Brittney Bernhard, Will Brown and Candy, Wyatt Bernhard. His surviving sibling is Karen (and Don) Froseth. There is a larger extended family of nieces and nephews.
The good life of Wilson Bernhard was remembered in a service on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel led by Dr. Gerald Hopkins. Visitation with the family was from 12 noon until the service hour.
Those who wish to do so may honor Wilson’s life by a memorial gift to Gideons International, P.O. Box 626, Newnan, GA 30264.
