After dropping its first two games of the regular season, the East Coweta baseball team won for the first time in the 2017 season, beating McIntosh on the road Thursday evening 7-2 in a non-region game.
East Coweta flexed its offensive muscle, and also used solid defense and pitching en route to the victory.
East Coweta jumped out to a 5-0 lead after after four innings. The Indians scored three times in the first inning and pushed single runs across the plate in the third and fourth.
McIntosh cut the lead to 5-1 with its first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
The Indians added to their run total with single runs in the fifth and seventh. McIntosh scored its final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, but East Coweta quickly put an end to the rally.
East Coweta outhit McIntosh 10-6. Their offensive arsenal including home runs from Ryan Dyal and Nick Daniel.
Devonte Brown and Coleman Wood each had a double for the Indians.
Ethan Darrow led the way for the Indians with a 3-for-4 performance, including a triple and two RBIs.
The Indians used three pitchers to pick up their first win of the season. Mason Meyer pitched four innings, gave up five hits and had six strikeouts and two walks.
Cody Rodger pitched two innings, gave up one hit and struck out three. Calvin Boyd struck out two, walked one and didn’t allow a hit in his only inning of work.
Northside-Columbus 5. Newnan 0: The Newnan Cougars fell to 1-2 on the Thursday with a 5-0 loss on the road against Northside-Columbus.
Northside broke the game open with a four-run explosion in the bottom of the first and added its other run in the fifth.
Newnan’s Bennett Rowan had the Cougars’ only hit in the top sixth.
The Cougars’ Seth Rainey pitched 4 ⅓ innings and struck out a batter, and Will Strickland also pitched and finished with two strikeouts.
