It was a good night overall for the Heritage School Hawks and Lady Hawks basketball teams, as they finished with a road sweep over the Holy Spirit Prep Cougars and Lady Cougars Tuesday in GISA Region 1-AAA action in Atlanta.
The Lady Hawks (5-1) defeated Holy Spirit 37-30, while the Hawks (6-6) won 54-46. Both teams are 3-0 in region play.
The Heritage girls were paced by Olivia Ayers with 12 points, Kara Groover with 11 points, 7 steals, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks, and Karlee Groover with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Heritage boys held a slim 21-18 halftime lead and outscored the Cougars by five in the second half to hold on for the eight-point victory, helping them finally reach .500 on the year.
Both teams will face county and region rivals Trinity Christian School Thursday, with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. at East Coweta High.
Trinity Christian 55, Atlanta Girls School 20 (girls): Abby Bragg scored 20 points and Morgan Charboneau chipped in 10 to lead the Lady Lions to the huge road win Tuesday evening. Trinity (9-4 overall, 4-1 region) hosts Heritage at 6 p.m. Thursday at ECHS.
Newnan teams fall at Westlake: The Newnan Lady Cougars and Cougars hit the road Tuesday in Atlanta, falling to the Westlake Lady Lions and Lions in Region 2-AAAAAAA action.
The Lady Cougars (7-9, 0-3 region) only scored seven points in the second quarter and trailed the No. 8 state-ranked Lady Lions 29-17 at the half. Westlake pulled away late and won 53-38.
The Cougars (7-10, 0-4) hung in with the No. 7 state-ranked Lions in the first half, trailing 40-31. But Westlake blitzed Newnan in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 44-15 to win going away, 84-46.
The Newnan teams host region foe Campbell Friday, with girls starting at 6 p.m.
