Watching our community come together on Saturday night was a dream come true. The Christmas Parade was wonderful. The floats were unusually well done and so different. And the children: Wow.
The laughter and the singing and dancing and the yells of “Merry Christmas” were heartwarming. I saw schools and churches and businesses come together and produce joy all the way from the high school to the Justice Center. As I stood there on LaGrange Street, my face began to hurt from smiling.
We could not have chosen a more deserving Grand Marshal than Frances Smith who represents the true meaning of Christmas every day of her life, and she and her husband were the shining lights of the parade.
I don’t remember enjoying anything any more than that magical hour of watching all the happy people as they came by me in the vehicles, walking, dancing, singing. It just proves what I have felt all these many years that Newnan is the best place on earth to call home.
I don’t know how the judges were able to award prizes because all of the preparation that went into making these floats so great took a lot of time, effort and love, and they showed.
I personally want to thank everyone who had a part in making this parade the best ever. And, I also want to thank our public safety people who did a marvelous job of making sure every route on the parade was safe. We are so blessed to live in this wonderful community, and at this special season of the year, I thank God for all who work so hard to make it the best place on earth.
May the spirit of this Christmas parade last the rest of this year and all next year. It was the best.
