Investigators with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their search for a man suspected of robbing a local jewelry store and roughing up the owner.

James Edward Morgan, owner of Morgan’s Jewelers at Thomas Crossroads, had just closed his doors for the evening when he was approached by an unknown man in the parking lot, according to Chief Deputy James Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect then led Morgan back to the store where he allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry and then struck Morgan across the head with a handgun. The suspect then fled the store in a black car.

Morgan was able to call 911 before being taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released, according to Yarbrough. The incident is under investigation.
