The Centre Strings orchestra, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary season, will hold a free Winter Celebration concert on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
The concert will feature traditional Christmas carols and works by Bach, Newbold, Anderson, Corelli, Mozart and DeAbreu. Selections will be performed not only by the collective orchestra but also by the new Centre Strings Trio and the Cabin String Quartet, which will make their debuts at the performance.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Donald W. Nixon Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts on Lower Fayetteville Road.
Centre Strings is Coweta County's community-student string ensemble and serves as the in-house string orchestra for the Nixon Centre. The orchestra is directed by Dr. Lyn Schenbeck, who co-founded the group with the late Don Nixon.
Since the group’s founding in 2004, it has grown from the original 8 members to 40. The ensemble holds a number of concerts throughout the year, performed at the Nixon Centre, senior centers and local churches.
Centre Strings is sponsored by the Nixon Centre and the Central Educational Center. Cargill of Newnan is the group’s patron.
