Newnan Police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to get a child to get in his vehicle.

On Tuesday afternoon, police were dispatched to the area of Pinson Street in reference to a reported attempted child abduction, according to a press release from the police department.

Officers were told that a white male attempted to abduct a young female child from the front of her residence. The child's father saw the suspect talking to the child and approached him. As he did so the suspect grabbed the child by her coat and started to walk toward his vehicle.

The father was able to get his child away and during the struggle the suspect was struck several times in the facial area. The suspect then got into his vehicle and fled the scene traveling south toward Martin Luther King Drive.

Authorities are looking for a black, older model 4-door Honda with a stripe down the middle on both sides of the vehicle. Police say the right-rear tire is different from the other three tires.

The suspect is described by police as tall and thin, between the ages of 23-28.

If you see the vehicle, or have any information on the incident, you're asked to call police at (770) 254-2355
